#BREAKING NEWS: Nobel Laureate Soyinka’s Daughter Dies

Iyetade Soyinka, a daughter of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, has died. Ms. Soyinka, who was born June 6, 1965, died at the University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital where she was being treated for an undisclosed ailment.The death was disclosed in a statement signed by Jahman Anikulapo, an aide to Mr. Soyinka, one of the world’s foremost dramatists and winner of the 1986 Nobel Prize in literature. The statement noted that the late Iyetade Soyinka was a student at the Staff School and Queens School, Ibadan before she studied Medicine at the University of Ibadan.

Mr. Anikulapo’s statement described the deceased as “affable, intelligent and sometimes capricious,” adding that she “struggled with her health in recent years.” Despite her health woes, the late Iyetade Soyinka “greeted every day with a smile and doted on her two children.”

The statement, which was issued on behalf of the deceased’s family, revealed that Ms. Soyinka “took ill quite suddenly and passed away while being treated at UCH, Ibadan.

“Iyetade leaves behind two children, both parents, numerous siblings, nieces and nephews.”

No funeral arrangements were announced in the statement. SaharaReporters was unable to reach Professor Soyinka before press time.

The IBB Square, Makurdi in Benue State was thrown into confusion over the weekend at the Benue youth fiesta when The Ginger Master, Terry G, the crooner was performing on stage.
Terry G decided to perform in his home town after years and hence attracted hundreds of youth, including men and women.
The event was organized by the member representing Guma/Makurdi federal constituency, Barrister Emmanuel Jime, who is known to be nursing gubernatorial ambition in 2015.
The venue of the event was jam-packed as all fun seekers in the agrarian state attended to unwind.
Prominent Nigerian artistes including J. Martins, I Go Dye, Ice Prince and Pastor Nicodemus Mbatsavtampu performed at event and it was such a lively occasion before it was rudely interrupted.
Trouble started as Terry G was on stage performing and some youth suspected to be hoodlums began to throw sachet water on the musician and later broke bottles and charged towards him, while making loud noise.
There was confusion as people ran helter skelter for the lives.

#MOVIE UPDATE: Vin Diesel shares F&F 7 release date and last scene shot with Paul Walker

 

Vin diesel shared this photo above and said it was the last scene filmed with late Paul Walker.

"It was the last scene we filmed together. There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared... in the film we were now completing... the magic captured... and, in just how far we've come...," Vin Diesel wrote on his Facebook page

He then announced the release date for the seventh installment of the Fast and Furious franchise "Fast and Furious 7 will be released . . .April 10th 2015! P.s. He'd want you to know first" He wrote

Fast and Furious 7 was originally slated for a July 2014 release, but because of Paul's sudden death, production was put on indefinite hold. Universal Pictures confirmed that Paul will appear in the latest sequel, using footage shot before he died.

Meanwhile TMZ reports that a group of fans are trying to rename the street he died on to 'Walker Rodas Memorial Parkway' but residents of the area have rejected the idea, saying Paul and his friend did nothing for their community and don't deserve to have the street named after them. The petition to re-name the street after Paul so far has over 2000 signatures.

Beat FM OAP Fade Ogunro and her prolific music video director brother Sesan Ogunro lost their dad in the early hours of this morning Monday Dec. 23rd. Mr Sesan Ogunro Snr, who was an advertising guru, was returning from his church Christmas Carol with members of his family, including his children and grand children when they were attacked by armed robbers last night around 10pm in front of their church at the back of Marwa Garden in Alausa Ikeja.

Mr Ogunro was shot point blank by the robbers. He was rushed to the hospital where he died around 12.45am early this morning. He was in his sixties. Too sad. May his soul rest in peace...amen.

There were reports recently that actor Saidi Balogun had dragged his ex- wife actress Fathia Balogun to court over the use of his surname, Balogun, insisting that she drops it. (Read HERE). Saidi denied the report in a statement he sent to the press (Find that HERE).

Fathia is now accusing him of lying to the press, because according to her, he indeed dragged her to court over the use of the name. Below is a statement released by her publicist, Seun Oloketuyi

“Our attention has been drawn to media reports where Saheed Balogun claims that he knows nothing about the media reports that he is in court with our client Fathia Balogun over his decision to ask his former wife to stop using his name.

“We will like to put the records straight. The case is in court and our lawyers are on it to ensure that our client retains the name. We won’t be saying much at this time but we believe that adults should be bold and mature enough to take responsibility for their actions and not do something and say something else.

"We won’t say anything further on this matter until judgement is given as this case resumes hearing.”

Femi Kuti has reportedly been nominated for a Grammy Award in the World Music category for his album 'No Place Like Home'.

According to reports, this is the Afro Beat singer's fourth Grammy Award nomination in a period of 10 years. Femi is nominated alongside French group Gipsy Kings, South Africa's Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Indian musician Ravi Shankar.

He previously lost out to Panamanian salsa singer Ruben Blades in 2003, US banjo player Bela Fleck in 2010 and Malian band Tinariwen in 2011.

Femi allegedly learnt about his nomination via Twitter.

American rappers Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar and Drake take the lead with nine, seven and five Grammy nominations in various categories respectively.

Nollywood star actress Rita Dominic and prolific producer Charles Novia are engaged in a serious Twitter war of words at the moment over comments made by Novia.

Known for his scathing criticism of celebrities, Charles Novia released a list of his top five actresses in Nigeria for the year 2013 on Thursday and placed Rita Dominic at number five.

This placement does not seem to have gone down well with Rita.

Novia said the actress, who just won the Best of Nollywood Award as the Best Supporting Actress in English for the movie 'Finding Mercy', gave a less than thrilling performance in the film.

Rita took to Twitter to vent her anger at the producer's comments.

"Check that Charles has not drowned himself. BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS ENGLISH (BONAwards): Rita Dominic for 'Finding Mercy'."

Charles Novia took it with the calmness of a gentleman and gave the following reply.

"Dear Rita Dominic: I am still alive and won't die for a looong time. My opinion of your role in Finding Mercy still persists. Congrats."
